Africa’s population is set to double by 2050, and over 60% of the population is already under 25. These young people are digital natives, navigating a world shaped by smartphones, mobile data, and online communities.
At the same time, climate change is becoming more urgent — and more complex. Traditional environmental education models often lack the scale, interactivity, and real-life relevance that today’s youth demand.
That’s why we believe digital tools are not just helpful — they are essential.

Through our Digital Environmental Education Programme, we plan to introduce a suite of engaging, youth-friendly digital tools, including:

📱 Eco-Challenges via WhatsApp and SMS – Accessible micro-learning activities and behaviour change nudges for areas with limited internet access.
🎥 Virtual Storytelling Labs – Creative digital spaces where young people can share their local climate stories through video, poetry, or social media campaigns.
These innovations meet youth where they are — online — and bring environmental awareness into their daily lives, peer networks, and creative expression.

Across the continent, tech-enabled climate education is already making waves:
- In Nigeria, GreenHubAfrica’s EcoHeroes app is turning climate science into competitive trivia games.
- In South Africa, platforms like EcoMaties and Greenpop run virtual tree-planting challenges and school competitions.
- In Kenya, young content creators use TikTok to share videos on waste separation, water-saving hacks, and local conservation campaigns.
